Job Description

• Managing ventilators and artificial airway devices for patients who cannot breathe normally on their own.
• This includes assisting lifesaving procedure like intubation, emergency and elective tracheostomy, and bronchoscopy.
• This is followed by their sterilization and maintainace.
• Efficacy and durability.
• The key role of the therapist is to provide ventilation and oxygenation support through various type of ventilator and oxygen devices through invasive and noninvasive mean.
• Ventilator patient always require intense monitoring .,which is vital in all aspect ,
• The Respiratory technician  precisely monitor the dynamic condition  of the patient 24x7 and anticipated the problem ,in case prior to the complication , opt for the possible solution  in case occur .
• All bed basic basic pulmonary test like FVC,FVI/FVC,PEFR can be done by therapist he also provide ancillary therapy like pulmonary hygiene through various newer therapy like EZPAP,ECAPELLA,HFCWO and basic physio and incentive spirometery .
• Critically ill ventilator patient often require various investigation to be done like MRI,CT scan and other part of the hospital.
• Thee is high chance of negligence and event may happen related to transporting such patient
• Respiratory therapists are accompanying the patient who is on ventilation and prevent all the problem related to ventilator.
• Blood gas analysis which includes collection ,sampling and processing is done by respiratory therapist in icu itself
• Therapist is well worse with  all method and site of blood collection
• Intimation of all the abnormal result  and inform to the concern person in icu also done by respiratory technician
• Attending to CPR (CARDIO PULMONORY RESUSCITATION) Medical Response Teams and other urgent calls for care, during CPR the role of RT is to assist in securing the airway, suction and ventilation.
• Respiratory technician is part of training and spreading the updated knowledge to their other counter parts. 
• Bedside clinical management   Physiological Knowledge,   Infection Control, are some of the key area in which respiratory technician involved.
•   Health Promotion and Maintenance,
• Advance airway modality like boogie ,LMA, cricothiroid sets  and C MAC intubation are assess and assist by  technician/Therapist
• The therapist is also integral part in forming all policy, protocol and procedure regarding respiratory care and management and implements it in ICU.
• They are supposed to keep themselves updated with respect to the global standard
• Technician is also involve in research activity and do take part in various educational activity ,promote and share their knowledge in respiratory care and management  to different health care professional in icu .
•  They also maintained the stock of all the accessories there maintenance and inventory regarding ventilator and oxygen.
• The care of all chronic patient who are on ventilator for long period in icu and probably in future is also organized and provide by team of respiratory technician
• It’s a good supportive system of care which will improve outcome of patient and reduces morbidity, mortality cost both in acute and chronic condition of patient
• . Skills
• Knowledge of normal and abnormal pathology and patho-physiology related to the respiratory system.
• Knowledge of the indications, appropriateness, contraindications, and side effects of various medications
• Responds to all calls and pages of the Department.
• Maintains knowledge of recent advances in medical principles of respiratory therapy equipment,
• Procedures and drugs.
• Works in potentially hazardous conditions following all the guidelines provided by the hospital regarding
• Infection Control, HAZ/MAT and Safety/Disaster.

         Responding to CPR (CARDIO PULMONORY RESUSCITATION) Medical Response Teams and other urgent calls for care. Interviewing patients and doing chest physical exams to determine what kind of therapy is best for their condition.

         Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

         Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
