Job Description

Key Responsibility Areas:

Reliability Testing Manager-Product Design & Component Engineering is responsible for ensuring that mechanical and electrical components selected for AHUs, chillers and other new products are reliable, correctly sized, validated and capable of meeting the required life and operating conditions.

To support reliability engineering, component selection, design validation and failure prevention for new HVAC products, with particular focus on mechanical and electrical components.

The role will work closely with R&D/Design, Electrical Design, Procurement, Quality, Testing and Production to ensure that components are technically suitable, reliable, cost-effective and compliant with applicable standards.

Role & responsibilities

Reliability Engineering

• Prepare FMEA/FMECA for new products and critical components.
• Identify potential failure modes and recommend design improvements.
• Establish component reliability targets and expected product life.
• Perform reliability calculations and statistical analysis where applicable.
• Develop derating guidelines for electrical and electronic components.
• Review component failure history and identify recurring failure mechanisms.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for field and test failures.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions through design changes.

Design Validation & Testing

• Develop reliability test plans for new products/components.
• Define accelerated life and endurance testing requirements.
• Participate in:
• Performance testing
• Life-cycle testing
• Temperature/humidity testing
• Vibration testing
• Electrical endurance testing
• Start/stop cycle testing
• Overload/abnormal-condition testing
• Analyze test failures and recommend design modifications.
• Establish Design Verification & Validation (DV/PV) requirements.

Standards & Compliance

The candidate should be comfortable working with relevant HVAC and electrical standards such as:

• AHRI standards
• ASHRAE standards
• IEC standards
• IS standards
• UL requirements, where applicable
• CE requirements, where applicable
• Applicable safety and environmental standards

He should ensure that component selection and product design comply with the applicable standards and customer specifications.

Supplier & Vendor Technical Evaluation

• Technically evaluate critical component suppliers.
• Review supplier datasheets, test reports and reliability data.
• Audit/participate in supplier qualification for critical components.
• Define incoming inspection and reliability requirements for critical components.
• Work with procurement and quality teams on alternate-source qualification.

Field Reliability

A strong candidate should also have responsibility for field feedback:

• Analyze warranty and service failure data.
• Identify high-failure components.
• Calculate failure rates/MTBF where meaningful.
• Develop reliability improvement programs.
• Feed field failures back into new product design.

Preferred candidate profile:

The candidate should have hands-on experience in selection, sizing, qualification and reliability evaluation of mechanical and electrical components used in engineered products. He should be capable of challenging design decisions from a reliability perspective and converting field/test failures into permanent product design improvements.

Educational Qualification MUST have:

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Mechatronics Engineering

Preferred:

• M.E./M.Tech in Reliability Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or related field.
• Certification/coursework in Reliability Engineering, FMEA, Six Sigma or Root Cause Analysis.
• AutoCAD/SolidWorks or equivalent
• Minitab or equivalent statistical software
• FMEA software/tools
• Excel advanced level
• Reliability prediction tools, if available
