Job Description
Job Title: Relay Testing & Commissioning Engineer
About the Role:
As a Relay Testing & Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for the configuration, testing, and site commissioning of protection relays and associated systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Testing and commissioning of Control & Relay Panels up to 400kV.
- Testing & commissioning of Protection Relays & Schemes for MV and HV applications such as feeder, transformer, distance, generator, line differential, bus bar, etc.
- Configuration, parametrization, goosing, interoperability, and integration of Protection IEDs with SCADA systems.
- Configuration of communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3.0, IEC61850, IEC60870-5-103, and creation of data sets, RCBs, and tagging of signals.
- Retrofitting and troubleshooting of Protection IEDs, including the replacement of CRPs.
- Hands-on operating knowledge of secondary injection test kits like Omicron, Doble, Ponovo, Isa, etc., and Auto Testing Methods like OCC, State Sequencing, Distance & Differential Characteristics Test.
- Preparation of Testing & Commissioning documents such as FAT, SAT, Test Reports, and Schedule Plans.
- Planning and execution of training courses and customer presentations.
- Willingness to travel as the role demands travel within India.
- Perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection relays and control systems for substations and industrial projects.
- Execute relay testing activities including secondary injection, functional testing, and end-to-end scheme checks.
- Handle protection schemes for Feeder, Transformer, Motor, Generator, Busbar, and Line Distance Protection systems.
- Conduct configuration, parameterization, and troubleshooting of numerical relays from OEMs such as ABB, Siemens, Schneider, SEL, GE, Micom, Areva/Alstom.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for protection panels and systems.
- Use advanced testing equipment such as OMICRON (CMC series) and other relay test sets for accurate validation.
- Analyze test results, identify faults, and ensure proper functioning of protection schemes.
- Prepare detailed test reports, commissioning reports, and technical documentation.
- Support troubleshooting and fault analysis during breakdowns or abnormal system conditions.
- Assist in upgradation, retrofit, and modification of existing protection systems.
