Job Description

• Assessment and Diagnosis: Counselling psychologists assess clients' mental health concerns, emotional issues, and life challenges through interviews, standardized assessments, and psychological tests. They gather information about clients' backgrounds, experiences, and symptoms to formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Psychotherapy and Counselling: They provide individual, couples, family, and group therapy sessions to help clients explore and address their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and interpersonal relationships. Counselling psychologists use evidence-based therapeutic techniques and approaches tailored to clients' needs and goals, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
• Crisis Intervention and Support: Counselling psychologists offer crisis intervention services and emotional support to clients experiencing acute distress, trauma, grief, or other crisis situations. They provide a safe and supportive environment for clients to express their feelings, process traumatic events, and develop coping strategies to manage crises effectively.
• Psychological Education and Skill-building: They educate clients about mental health issues, coping skills, stress management techniques, and healthy lifestyle behaviors to promote psychological well-being and resilience. Counselling psychologists empower clients to develop self-awareness, self-esteem, assertiveness, and problem-solving skills to navigate life's challenges more effectively.
• Collaboration and Referral: Counselling psychologists collaborate with other mental health professionals, medical providers, educators, and community resources to coordinate comprehensive care and support for clients. They may refer clients to psychiatrists, social workers, support groups, or community agencies for additional services and resources as needed.
• Ethical and Professional Standards: Counselling psychologists adhere to ethical guidelines, confidentiality principles, and professional standards of practice established by national and international psychological associations. They maintain appropriate boundaries, respect clients' autonomy and cultural diversity, and prioritize clients' well-being and privacy in all interactions and interventions.
