Project Manager - Factory Grocery Repacking Units

Job Description

Role & responsibilities

1. Factory Planning & Layout Design

• Develop detailed factory layouts covering raw material receipt, cleaning, sorting, weighing, packing, labeling, and dispatch zones.
• Design material and personnel flow patterns to ensure segregation of raw, semi-finished, and finished products to avoid cross-contamination.
• Plan machine placement to optimize space, ergonomics, and maintenance accessibility while maintaining hygiene zoning.
• Integrate provisions for waste collection, utilities, and pest control in layout design.
• Collaborate with CoE and Quality teams to validate layouts from a GMP and food safety perspective.

2. Machine & Capacity Planning

• Define machine requirements based on SKU mix, throughput, and future volume projections.
• Evaluate and finalize machine specifications with vendor inputs ensuring compliance with food contact material standards and ease of cleaning.
• Review machine drawings, utility requirements, and installation layouts.
• Develop preventive maintenance guidelines and OEE targets during commissioning.

3. Project Execution & Commissioning

• Lead end-to-end project execution civil, utilities, machinery installation, and commissioning.
• Manage contractors and vendors for on-time and safe delivery of infrastructure and machinery.
• Validate performance trials, safety audits, and hygiene certifications before handover.
• Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for all major equipment.

4. Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure layouts, materials, and processes adhere to FSSAI, HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP, and local statutory norms.
• Implement hygienic zoning (low-risk, high-risk areas), washable surfaces, and sanitary design features.
• Coordinate with QA/Food Safety teams for pre-startup audits and compliance documentation.

5. Cost, Quality & Vendor Management

• Prepare project budgets and monitor progress against approved cost and schedule baselines.
• Source and negotiate with equipment vendors, contractors, and consultants.
• Track project change requests, cost control, and risk management.

6. Governance & Reporting

• Maintain project charters, Gantt charts, and milestone dashboards.
• Present progress, risk assessments, and commissioning readiness to senior management.
• Document lessons learned, and develop a standard Factory Design & Commissioning Playbook for future rollouts.

Preferred candidate profile

15+ years in FMCG / Food / Staples / Packaging industries with proven experience in greenfield/brownfield projects, machine installation, and plant layout design.
