Job Description Manager Procurement (Packaging Development)

Role  - is responsible for end-to-end procurement of raw and packaging materials, with a strong focus on new packaging material development, quality assurance, cost optimization, supplier management, and compliance for domestic and export markets.

Professional certification/course from Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Operations

- Manage end-to-end procurement activities including processing purchase requisitions/indents (IDO).

- Review BOMs and assess net material requirements against available inventory.

- Float RFQs, prepare comparative statements, evaluate suppliers, and recommend sourcing decisions.

- Negotiate prices, delivery schedules, and payment terms.

- Execute purchase orders after internal approvals.

- Ensure timely follow-up with suppliers and coordinate with stores/logistics.

Packaging Development & Quality Assurance

- Responsible for new packaging material development and quality verification with QA of all new incoming packaging materials.

- Prepare and approve specifications for new packaging materials including labels, cartons, inserts, and develop shade cards.

- Coordinate physical performance trials, packing line trials, and stability studies for new developments and modifications to existing packaging materials.

- Support production teams in troubleshooting and resolving packing line issues related to packaging material quality deviations.

- Handle market packaging complaints and generate Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA).

- Generate packaging material failure reports and maintain records of investigations and corrective actions.

- Coordinate with internal teams and external agencies for packaging artworks and revisions.

- Drive cost optimization by modifying packaging designs to reduce freight cost and increase truck load efficiency.

- Support sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging materials.

Vendor Audit & Development

- Conduct timely vendor audits and vendor evaluations focused on quality improvement, compliance, and cost reduction.

- Develop and monitor supplier performance metrics related to packaging material quality, delivery, and service.

- Identify, qualify, and develop alternate suppliers for packaging materials.

Documentation & Compliance

- Maintain complete packaging-related documentation including specifications, test reports, failure reports, instrument calibration records, and MOC (Management of Change) records.

- Ensure compliance with internal quality systems, regulatory requirements, and customer standards.

- Maintain procurement documentation including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier agreements.

Reporting & Coordination

- Provide regular updates to Management, Production, QC, and other stakeholders.

- Support cost analysis, budgeting, and commercial evaluations related to packaging materials.

Qualifications

- Graduate (any discipline).

Experience

- 45 years of relevant experience in procurement with strong exposure to packaging development and quality systems.
