Kidney Disease Diagnosis : Nephrologists diagnose and treat a wide range of kidney - related conditions, including : Chronic kidney disease (CKD)Acute kidney injury (AKI)Kidney stones Glomerulonephritis Polycystic kidney disease (PKD)Hypertension (high blood pressure) related to kidney problemsDialysis : Nephrologists are involved in the management of patients who require dialysis. Dialysis is a medical procedure that replicates some of the kidney's functions when the kidneys are no longer able to adequately filter waste and excess fluids from the blood. Kidney Transplantation : Nephrologists are also integral to the care of patients who have received or are in need of kidney transplants. They manage patients before and after transplantation, ensuring that the transplanted organ functions properly and that the patient's overall health is maintained. Fluid and Electrolyte Balance : Nephrologists are experts in maintaining the body's fluid and electrolyte balance, which is crucial for overall health. They manage conditions such as electrolyte imbalances, acid - base disorders, and fluid retention. Hypertension Management : Nephrologists play a key role in managing high blood pressure, especially when it is related to kidney disease.
