Job Description

Job Purpose:
A skilled and proactive Structural Safety Engineer is responsible for managing the safety, design review, and execution of temporary structures within a dynamic convention and event environment.

The role involves close coordination with event planners, designers, structural engineers, and on-site fabrication teams to ensure all structures are safe, compliant with applicable standards, and installed in accordance with approved guidelines and specifications.

The position requires a strong focus on risk assessment, structural integrity, rigging operation and adherence to safety protocols throughout all stages of planning and execution. The engineer will play a critical role in ensuring that all temporary structures meet regulatory, engineering, and organizational safety requirements.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Design Review & Structural Assessment

  • Collaborate with event planners, designers, structural Engineers and vendors during the design phase.
  • Evaluate structural feasibility of:
  • Shell scheme installations
  • Wooden fabricated structures
  • Metallic fabricated structures
  • Mezzanine and multi-level temporary structures
  • Temporary stages, lounges, and truss installation
  • Thematic fabricated structures
  • Lifting operations
  • Rigging methods
  • Load calculations
  • HSEF equipment
  • Identify high-risk or critical structures and provide engineering recommendations and ensure enforcement of the same.
  1. Risk Identification & Mitigation
  • Conduct structural analysis to ensure safety and stability of all temporary installations.
  • Highlight critical load-bearing elements, anchoring requirements, and material specifications.
  • Recommend modifications to designs where required to meet safety standards and compliance.

2. On-Site Supervision & Execution Support

  • Monitor structural integrity during build-up and dismantling phases.
  • Ensure all structures are erected as per approved designs and safety guidelines.
  • Resolve on-site structural issues in coordination with vendors and internal teams.
  • Supervise rigging and lifting operations, ensuring proper procedures and accurate load calculations.

3. Shift & Operational Flexibility

  • Plan and align working hours based on event schedules and critical setup timelines.
  • Be available for night shifts or extended hours during major event build-ups or high-risk installations.

4. Training & Capability Development

  • Train internal teams on structural safety, best practices, and risk awareness.
  • Build internal capability to identify potential structural hazards.
  • Develop checklists and SOPs for recurring structural setups.

5. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain documentation of structural approvals, inspections, and incident reports.
  • Support audits and safety inspections when required.
  • Perform and document rigging and lifting load calculations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in civil / Structural Engineering.
  • Masters degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • Certification on safe rigging operations, structural stability by recognised third party / institution / education board is an advantage.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles and temporary structure engineering.
  • Expertise in rigging and lifting operations.
  • Experience in inspection of lifting tools and tackles.
  • Experience with wood, metal, and modular fabrication systems.
  • Understanding of load calculations, truss systems, and mezzanine structures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and on-site decision-making ability.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic event environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including night shifts.
  • Hands-on approach with strong site presence.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

EXPERIENCE

  • 3–8 years of experience (preferred in temporary structures, exhibitions, events, or similar industries).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience of rigging or lifting activity is preferred.
  • Experience in Construction safety, structural assessment, designing software
