Job Summary:

The Electrical DG Operations Manager is responsible for managing the operation, maintenance, and reliability of Diesel Generator (DG) systems in a data center environment. The role ensures uninterrupted backup power availability, efficient fuel management, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards, while leading a team of engineers and coordinating with vendors.

Key Responsibilities

1. DG Operations Management

• Oversee 24/7 operation and monitoring of DG systems and associated equipment (AMF panels, synchronization panels).
• Ensure DG systems are always in a state of readiness for emergency power backup.
• Manage load sharing, synchronization, and auto-start operations during power failures.
• Define operational procedures to ensure zero downtime.

2. Electrical Infrastructure Coordination

• Integrate DG operations with UPS systems, transformers, HT/LT panels, and switchgear.
• Ensure seamless power transfer between utility, UPS, and DG systems.
• Monitor electrical load distribution and optimize system performance.

3. Team Leadership & Management

• Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and technicians.
• Plan shift schedules and ensure 24/7 coverage.
• Conduct training programs and performance evaluations.
• Ensure adherence to SOPs and safety protocols.

4. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for DG systems.
• Oversee troubleshooting, breakdown maintenance, and major overhauls.
• Coordinate with OEM vendors (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, MTU) for servicing and upgrades.
• Ensure availability of critical spares and inventory management.

5. Fuel Management

• Manage fuel storage, consumption, and replenishment planning.
• Ensure fuel quality testing and compliance with environmental norms.
• Optimize fuel usage and maintain accurate consumption records.

6. Incident & Emergency Management

• Lead response to power failures and DG-related incidents.
• Ensure quick restoration of power with minimal downtime.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Manage escalation as per SLAs.

7. Compliance, Safety & Audits

• Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards and statutory regulations.
• Adhere to data center standards (ISO, TIA-942, Uptime Institute guidelines).
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency drills.
• Maintain all regulatory documentation and records.

8. Reporting & Performance Monitoring

• Track and report KPIs such as DG availability, MTTR, MTBF, and fuel efficiency.
• Prepare daily/weekly/monthly operational reports.
• Present performance insights to management and stakeholders.

9. Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for system optimization and automation.
• Improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime risks.
• Implement best practices for energy efficiency and reliability.

Educational Qualification

• Bachelors degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
