Role: Field Service Engineer Marine Communication Systems

Role Overview:
The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for attending vessels and shore-based locations to perform installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of advanced maritime communication and navigation systems.

This role requires strong hands-on experience with stabilized antenna systems and satellite-based communication solutions. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of IT networking, secure communication systems, and onboard digital infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out onboard and onshore installation, configuration, commissioning, and maintenance of maritime communication and navigation equipment.
• Work on stabilized antenna systems and satellite communication terminals (broadband and voice solutions).
• Configure and support integrated communication platforms, including onboard network (LAN/WAN) setup and traffic management.
• Set up and manage network infrastructure including firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, and secure connectivity solutions.
• Provide support for onboard communication devices and crew connectivity solutions.
• Diagnose faults, perform repairs, and upgrade hardware/software/firmware as required.
• Provide remote technical support and guidance to vessel crew members.
• Maintain service documentation such as reports, installation records, and system diagrams.
• Coordinate with OEMs, remote teams, and customer IT/security teams for issue resolution.

Education:

• Degree/Diploma in Electronics, Telecommunications, IT, or Marine Engineering

Experience:

• 3–5 years of relevant experience in maritime communication systems, satellite connectivity, or navigation equipment
• Hands-on exposure to stabilized antenna systems and satellite communication technologies
• Strong understanding of IP networking concepts (routing, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, etc.)
• Familiarity with Linux-based systems and remote troubleshooting tools (SSH/CLI)
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and network diagrams

Skills & Certifications:

• Relevant OEM or product-based certifications (preferred but not mandatory)
• Networking certifications such as CCNA, Network+, or equivalent
• ITIL Foundation (preferred for support process understanding)

Other Requirements:

• Willingness to travel extensively (onboard vessels and ports)
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to work independently in dynamic environments
