Job Description

Discuss the objectives, requirements and budget for the project

Consult with other colleagues about the design

Prepare and present the feasibility reports & design proposals for the client

Advise the client on the practicality of their project

Apply IT knowledge in design and project management, specifically using computer - aided design software

Stick to financial budget and deadlines

Deliver detailed workings, drawings and specifications

Specify the nature and quality of material required

Prepare tender applications and presentations

Negotiate with contractors and other professionals

Prepare applications for planning and building control departments

Draw tender documents for contracts

Manage the project and coordinate with contractors

Take control of the project from start to end

Ensure that the project is running on time and to the budget

Regular site visits to check on the progress

Resolve problems and issues that arise during construction

Ensure that the environmental impact of the project is managed Key skills for architects:

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

High levels of creativity, imagination and vision

A keen interest in the built environment and the dedication to see projects to their conclusion

Willingness to work for long hours, under time and budget pressure

Excellent design and drafting skills and proficiency with computer - aided design (CAD)

Strong mathematical skills

A keen eye for the detail of specific tasks, combined with an understanding of how such specifics fit in with the project as a whole

Organisational, project management and planning skills, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks

An analytical mind with excellent problem - solving ability

Leadership skills as well as the ability to work well within a team of other professionals
