Job Description
The Teaching Assistant provides instruction and support to socially marginalised and/or economically disadvantaged young women (ages 18- 25) whose schooling has been interrupted. They work with an interdisciplinary team to guide participants in reaching their academic, personal, and vocational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct instruction and tutoring in small groups in primary-level subjects: English, math, Hindi, history, social science, computers, health, life skills, and NIOS exam preparation
- Support teacher in classroom management; helping students with focusing, time management, shifting between tasks
- Support teacher in organising teaching materials (worksheets, computers, AV equipment, etc.)
- Lead group activities
- Use supportive, hands-on practices to foster confidence, critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity in students
- Provide attention and adaptation to meet learning needs of individuals with varied ability levels, learning styles, and interests
- Assist in tracking student progress and outcomes by entering assessments into database
- Support students in using technology-based learning tools
- Contribute to development of program curriculum and activities by helping to identify students knowledge gaps and learning needs
- Mentor participants and encourage them in identifying and expanding their strengths, interests, and goals
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- Bilingual English/ Hindi required, Marathi helpful
- Familiarity with CBSE, ICSE, and/or US Common Core helpful but not required
- Commitment to helping students think independently and ask question not only learn facts and memorisation
- Interest in working with non-traditional students
- Previous experience in an educational environment of any kind
- Confident speaking in front of groups and facilitating activities
- Comfortable with technology
- Energetic and innovative
- Eager to serve as a mentor and role model as well as an instructor
- Creatively seeks resources from the outside community, online, and elsewhere to support & enhance program activities
- Sensitive, empathetic, and non- judgemental attitude; counselling experience not necessary but should be sensitised to the experiences and needs of disadvantaged students
- Passion for empowering women
