Design Development Engineer (Mechanical)

Purpose of the Role

The Design Development Engineer will be responsible for mechanical design, sheet metal design and development, fabrication drawings, 3D modeling, engineering documentation, design optimization, and coordination with manufacturing teams for successful execution of projects.

The candidate should have strong experience in industrial product design, sheet metal structures, fabrication processes, assemblies, and engineering calculations.

• Design and develop sheet metal components, assemblies, and industrial products.
• Prepare 3D models, fabrication drawings, GA drawings, and BOMs.
• Develop detailed engineering documentation and design standards.
• Create sheet metal flat patterns and manufacturing-ready drawings.
• Perform tolerance analysis and engineering calculations.
• Coordinate with production, fabrication, laser cutting, bending, and welding teams.
• Optimize designs for manufacturing, cost reduction, and assembly efficiency.
• Support prototype development and production troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
• Participate in design reviews and technical discussions.
• Maintain engineering records and revision control using PDM/PLM systems.

Software Skills

Candidate should have hands-on experience in:

• Autodesk Inventor
• SolidWorks Sheet Metal
• AutoCAD Mechanical
• Autodesk Vault

• Knowledge of CNC fabrication processes
• Laser cutting and bending calculations

• Sheet metal enclosure design
• Industrial panel/switchgear fabrication
• Fabrication and welding drawings
• Structural/mechanical assemblies
• GD&T and manufacturing tolerances
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
• Product development lifecycle
• Exposure to IEC/industrial standards preferred

• Bachelor s Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• CAD certifications preferred

• Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong knowledge of fabrication standards and practices
• Good communication and coordination skills
• Ability to independently handle design projects
• Team-oriented and proactive approach

The position is required to support increasing engineering workload, sheet metal product development activities, and ongoing customer projects.
