Job Description
Key Criteria: Minimum Qualification: Graduation/MBA: Candidates must possess at least a bachelor's degree, with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) being highly desirable. Relevant fields of study might include finance, economics, business administration, or risk management. The preference for an MBA signals the roles focus on strategic leadership in credit processes. Experience Required: 8 to 10 Years of Underwriting Experience: This significant experience requirement reflects the seniority of the position and its need for advanced expertise. It includes: Extensive exposure to underwriting both secured and unsecured loan products. Specific expertise in microfinance loans, focusing on providing small credit amounts to underserved sectors, particularly rural and semi-urban markets. Proven experience in credit risk analysis, portfolio monitoring, and mitigating defaults in large-scale loan operations. Microfinance specialization: Knowledge of borrower behavior in low-income groups or small-scale enterprises is critical, as this will help structure lending processes suited to the market. Core Responsibilities: Credit Risk Assessment: Lead the underwriting process for both unsecured and secured loans, with loan sizes tailored to the microfinance and SME sector. Evaluate risk exposure while ensuring a healthy balance between growth and non-performing assets (NPAs). Policy Formulation & Implementation: Develop, refine, and ensure adherence to credit policies that meet organizational objectives and regulatory compliance requirements. Innovate in risk mitigation strategies to minimize defaults and support sustainable portfolio growth. Portfolio Monitoring: Oversee the credit health of loan portfolios, ensuring that delinquency rates and NPAs are maintained at acceptable levels. Identify trends or warning signals, providing strategic solutions. Leadership & Training: Mentor and guide a team of credit officers or managers, ensuring they are equipped to assess loans efficiently and effectively. Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for credit evaluation. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with RBI guidelines, especially regarding microfinance and NBFC operations. Ensure all lending practices align with national regulations. Collaboration: Coordinate with sales, operations, and collections teams to support business objectives and credit risk management. Ideal Candidate Profile: Professional Skills: Advanced expertise in underwriting both secured and unsecured loan products. Sound understanding of the microfinance sector, especially regarding borrower segments, credit scoring models, and repayment behavior. Experience in managing large teams and portfolios. Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the operational models of private banks and top NBFCs. Knowledge of credit policies for low-income and underserved markets.
