Position Summary
The Mother Teacher (Pre-Primary) plays a central role in the early learning journey of children, acting as the primary caregiver, facilitator, and emotional anchor for the class. The role involves nurturing children aged typically between Nursery, LKG, and UKG through a structured yet play-based learning environment.
The ideal candidate should be warm, patient, creative, and highly committed to early childhood education. The role requires a strong ability to build foundational literacy, numeracy, social-emotional skills, and classroom readiness in young learners while ensuring a safe, joyful, and engaging classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Classroom Ownership & Child Care
- Act as the primary teacher and caregiver (Mother Teacher”) for assigned Pre-Primary class.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and emotionally supportive classroom environment.
- Build strong emotional bonding with children to support smooth transition into school life.
- Ensure every child feels secure, valued, and included in classroom activities.
- Monitor child well-being, behavior, hygiene, and emotional development daily.
2. Academic Foundation Development (Early Literacy & Numeracy)
- Introduce foundational concepts of English, Hindi, and basic communication skills.
- Develop pre-reading and pre-writing skills through phonics, storytelling, and tracing activities.
- Teach early numeracy concepts such as counting, shapes, patterns, sizes, and comparison.
- Use activity-based and play-based learning methods for concept clarity.
- Build cognitive skills through puzzles, sorting, sequencing, and interactive games.
3. Play-Based & Experiential Learning
- Design and implement age-appropriate, activity-based lesson plans.
- Use storytelling, role play, rhymes, songs, dance, and dramatization for learning.
- Organize hands-on activities such as craft work, clay modeling, drawing, and painting.
- Encourage curiosity, imagination, creativity, and exploration in children.
- Integrate learning through indoor and outdoor play activities.
4. Social, Emotional & Behavioral Development
- Develop good habits, discipline, manners, and classroom etiquette among children.
- Teach values such as sharing, empathy, respect, and teamwork.
- Support emotional development and help children express feelings appropriately.
- Address behavioral concerns with patience and positive reinforcement.
- Encourage independence in small tasks like eating, cleaning, and organizing belongings.
5. Assessment & Child Progress Tracking
- Observe and record individual child development regularly.
- Maintain detailed progress reports and developmental portfolios for each child.
- Conduct continuous, informal assessment through observation and activities.
- Share regular feedback with parents regarding child progress.
- Identify learning or developmental gaps and provide early intervention support.
6. Classroom Management
- Maintain a joyful, colorful, and child-friendly classroom environment.
- Ensure structured daily routine and smooth transitions between activities.
- Manage classroom behavior using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Maintain discipline while ensuring a stress-free learning environment.
- Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times.
7. Parent Communication & Engagement
- Build strong communication and trust with parents/guardians.
- Conduct regular Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) and informal interactions.
- Provide guidance to parents on child development and home learning support.
- Share daily or weekly updates as per school communication policy.
- Address parent concerns with empathy and professionalism.
8. Health, Hygiene & Safety
- Ensure children follow hygiene practices such as handwashing and cleanliness.
- Monitor child health and report any concerns to school authorities.
- Maintain safety standards in classroom and play areas.
- Supervise children during all school activities, including breaks and outdoor play.
- Follow all school safety and child protection policies strictly.
9. Co-Curricular & School Activities
- Organize and participate in school events, celebrations, and cultural activities.
- Conduct festivals, theme days, storytelling sessions, and celebrations.
- Encourage participation in music, dance, art, and creative expression activities.
- Support school initiatives such as annual days, sports day, and exhibitions.
10. Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain attendance records, child portfolios, and progress reports.
- Prepare lesson plans and daily activity schedules.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.
- Coordinate with Pre-Primary Coordinator for curriculum planning and execution.
- Contribute to development of teaching aids and classroom resources.
Required Qualifications
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
- Diploma/Certification in Early Childhood Education (NTT / ECCE / Montessori Training preferred or mandatory as per school policy).
- B.Ed. (Early Childhood / Primary Education) will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in Pre-Primary or Early Childhood Education.
- Experience in CBSE or structured preschool systems preferred.
- Freshers with strong ECCE training and passion for teaching may be considered.
