Job Summary
Quality Inspector Heavy Fabrication Machining Items
Job Purpose
- Ensure timely, accurate, and thorough inspection of heavy fabricated and machined components.
- Coordinate and execute inspection activities in-house and at supplier/vendor locations, ensuring compliance with approved standards, drawings, and quality plans.
Key Result Areas (KRAs)
- Conduct inspections using calibrated measuring and testing instruments.
- Prepare and submit accurate inspection reports within defined timelines.
- Maintain effective coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to quality procedures and standards.
- Continuously upgrade technical and professional competencies.
Core Responsibilities
- Interpret and verify components against engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerances.
- Understand and implement Quality Assurance Plans (QAP) and Inspection Test Plans (ITP).
- Perform raw material inspection, including review of MTCs and coordination of NDT activities.
- Carry out in process and final inspections at vendor premises.
- Execute inspections in heavy fabrication and machine shop environments.
- Possess sound knowledge of machining operations (turning, milling, boring, drilling, grinding, etc.).
- Conduct assembly inspections and ensure dimensional and functional conformity.
- Ensure proper use and handling of precision measuring instruments.
- Continuously update technical knowledge related to inspection methods, standards, and best practices.

- ISO 18001 / ISO 45001 Occupational Health Safety
Decision-Making Authority
- Authorized to take self-inspection decisions within approved quality procedures and defined scope.
Qualifications Experience
- Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience in inspection of heavy fabrication and critical machined components.
- NDT Level -II certification in PT, MT, UT, RT.
- Strong experience in machining and assembly inspections.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness and ability to work in shop floor conditions.
- Knowledge of SAP / ERP systems is preferred.
Technical Competencies
- Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments:
- Vernier calipers, micrometres, bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators, slip gauges, etc.
- Strong understanding of:
- Machining processes
- Fabrication and welding
- Assembly and fit up inspections
- Painting processes
Other Competencies
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic presentation and reporting skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to coordinate effectively with production, vendors, and inspection agencies.
